Terms of Use

Conditions governing the use of Protplex.

Acceptance of terms

These Terms of Use govern your access to and use of Protplex, including the Protplex website, search tools, account features, APIs, MCP-compatible tools, and supported integrations. Protplex is operated by Straintest LLC, Hagenholzstrasse 62, 8050 Zurich, Switzerland. References in these Terms to Protplex, we, us, or our mean Straintest LLC.

Straintest Bio Initiative is a public-facing initiative or project name used by Straintest LLC. By accessing or using Protplex, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use Protplex.

Eligibility and organization use

You must be at least 13 years old, or the minimum age required to use online services in your jurisdiction, to use Protplex. If you use Protplex on behalf of an organization, you represent that you have authority to bind that organization to these Terms. In that case, you includes both you and the organization.

The service

Protplex provides protein-structure search, retrieval, ranking, summarization, and related account and integration features through the Protplex website and supported integrations, including MCP-compatible clients and third-party assistant platforms where made available.

We may update, improve, limit, suspend, or discontinue features at any time. Service descriptions, documentation, examples, and search coverage are provided for general information and do not guarantee that any feature, dataset, integration, or result will remain available or meet your requirements.

Experimental features

Protplex may include beta, preview, research, or experimental features. These features may be changed, suspended, rate-limited, or discontinued at any time and may be less reliable than generally available features. We provide experimental features for evaluation and do not guarantee that they will become generally available or remain compatible with existing workflows.

Accounts, credentials, and integrations

Some features require sign-in or an integration-specific authorization flow. You must provide accurate account information and keep it current. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your credentials, tokens, API keys, and authorized client sessions, and for all activity that occurs under your account or authorized client.

You must promptly notify us if you believe your account, credentials, tokens, or authorized sessions have been compromised. We may rotate, revoke, throttle, or disable credentials or integrations to protect Protplex, users, third-party platforms, data sources, or legal compliance.

ChatGPT, MCP, and third-party platforms

Protplex may be accessible through ChatGPT, OpenAI services, MCP-compatible clients, or other third-party assistant or agent platforms. Your use of those platforms is governed by their own terms, policies, privacy notices, and account rules. Protplex is an independent service and is not made, endorsed, operated, or guaranteed by OpenAI or any other third-party platform unless expressly stated.

You must not use Protplex through a third-party platform in a way that violates that platform's terms, usage policies, safety rules, or developer requirements. We may limit, suspend, or refuse integration access where necessary to comply with platform rules, protect users, or prevent misuse.

API, MCP, and automated access

You may access Protplex only through the website, documented interfaces, authorized integrations, or other methods we make available. You must not use automated systems, scripts, agents, crawlers, or MCP clients in a way that exceeds documented limits, degrades service performance, circumvents quotas, hides usage, or creates unreasonable load.

Unless we expressly allow it, you may not cache, redistribute, resell, or bulk-republish Protplex results or third-party scientific data obtained through Protplex except as permitted by applicable third-party licences and documented Protplex functionality.

Acceptable use

You must not:

  • Bypass authentication, quotas, rate limits, access controls, or technical restrictions.
  • Interfere with the operation, security, integrity, or availability of Protplex, third-party platforms, data sources, or other users' access.
  • Scrape, extract, mirror, crawl, or bulk-download Protplex or third-party scientific data beyond documented interfaces and reasonable operational limits.
  • Reverse engineer, probe, scan, or test Protplex except as expressly authorized or in a way that creates security, stability, privacy, or abuse risk.
  • Use Protplex to submit, generate, retrieve, or distribute unlawful, infringing, deceptive, abusive, harmful, malicious, or privacy-invasive content.
  • Submit passwords, API keys, one-time passcodes, payment card data, government identifiers, patient records, confidential third-party information, or other restricted sensitive information unless we explicitly request it for a disclosed purpose.
  • Use Protplex to develop, optimize, obtain, or facilitate biological weapons, toxins, harmful pathogens, unlawful drug development, evasion of biosafety controls, or other activities that create material biological, chemical, clinical, or public-safety risk.
  • Use Protplex in violation of third-party platform terms, OpenAI or other platform policies, scientific database licences, export-control laws, sanctions laws, or applicable regulations.
  • Resell, sublicense, or provide Protplex access as a managed service unless we agree in writing.

Protplex is intended to support scientific discovery, literature triage, protein-structure search, and related research workflows. Protplex is not a medical device, clinical decision-support system, diagnostic tool, regulatory compliance tool, laboratory safety system, or substitute for professional scientific judgment.

Search results, rankings, summaries, annotations, links, and other outputs may be incomplete, inaccurate, outdated, mis-ranked, or based on third-party data that contains errors. You are responsible for independently verifying outputs against primary scientific sources, experimental evidence, applicable protocols, and professional judgment before relying on them for scientific, clinical, regulatory, operational, commercial, or safety-related decisions.

Do not use Protplex as the sole basis for diagnosis, treatment, patient care, regulatory filings, laboratory procedures, hazardous experiments, intellectual-property decisions, or commercial development decisions.

Plans, billing, and taxes

Some features may require a paid plan. Prices, quotas, limits, billing intervals, renewal terms, and cancellation options will be disclosed at purchase. Unless stated otherwise, subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled. Fees are non-refundable except where required by law or expressly stated at purchase. You are responsible for applicable taxes, duties, and similar charges.

If Protplex is currently offered without charge or as an experimental service, we may introduce paid plans, quotas, usage limits, or subscription features in the future. Paid features may be subject to additional terms disclosed at purchase or activation.

Privacy

Suspension and termination

We may suspend, throttle, revoke, or terminate access if we reasonably believe you have violated these Terms, created security or abuse risk, violated third-party platform or data-source rules, or if continued access would expose us, users, third-party platforms, data sources, or others to legal, operational, or security harm.

Upon suspension or termination, your right to access Protplex ends immediately. Sections that by their nature should survive will survive, including ownership, third-party terms, disclaimers, liability limits, indemnity, governing law, and payment obligations.
